Enjoy an evening of jazz and learn more about what makes the genre so unique and vibrant. Local musician/composer and educator, Adam Jenkins along with his quartet, will spend time talking about and demonstrating how to listen to and appreciate jazz. Accompanying Adam will be a select group of some of the regions best jazz musicians.
So join us for an evening of great music, good food and wine and of course, fun.
Adam Jenkins writes:
I have often been asked, “How do jazz musicians seem to all know where to come back in with the melody after the solos?” Or, ” Do you guys play the melody and then just make stuff up after that?”
These and many other questions will be addressed in a fun evening of music. No previous knowledge of music is required. Part class, part concert, all fun, we will have a live jazz quartet that will demonstrate how jazz music is “put together”. We will cover how a Jazz Tune is organized, the role of each instrument in the combo (Horn, Piano,Bass,Drums), what improvisation is and what it’s not, (it’s not “just make something up” ).
