The Institute of Fun™ has been on hiatus for the past few months, but there’s still a lot of fun stuff going on in town.

Here are a few of our favorite things, new and old:

Movies on a Big Screen

MOBS is an on-going film festival/microcinema that’s been showing a delightful smorgasbord of films since 2006. They are currently located at the Guild Theater, a beautifully restored theater right off of Broadway. Previews of upcoming films and a schedule are on their web site. Check them out: http://www.moviesonabigscreen.com/

Record Club Movie Night
at the Townhouse Lounge

The Townhouse, on 21st Street, was closed for a while, and frankly doesn’t have the most welcoming facade, but it’s worth venturing inside for the weekly Record Club Movie Night. They show music-related movies and serve a free dinner (spaghetti when we were there) on the second floor. Order a drink, grab some food, sit on the couches and watch the movie. Their web site, http://www.townhouselounge.com/, is not the most informative, so I suggest that you take your pick of becoming their “friend” on either Facebook or Myspace to find out more.

Live Band Karaoke
at Marilyn’s on K

I have always wanted to see (and perhaps try my hand at) live band karaoke, so one Tuesday evening soon I’ll need to make my way to Marilyn’s on K to check it out. Maybe I’ll see you there. http://marilynsonk.com/

What did you do this summer for fun? Let me know and I’ll add it to this post (or you can comment on this post). Thanks for helping us keep Sacramento fun!
